Viva Magenta has run its course as the Color of the Year for 2023, and it’s Peach Fuzz that’s getting all the buzz in 2024. Global color authority Pantone has unveiled its 2024 Color of the Year, and it’s just as sweet and cozy as you’d expect.

“A cozy peach hue softly nestled between pink and orange, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz brings belonging, inspires recalibration, and an opportunity for nurturing, conjuring up an air of calm, offering us a space to be, feel, and heal and to flourish from whether spending time with others or taking the time to enjoy a moment by ourselves,” said Pantone Color Institute Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman in a press release.

In the spirit of embracing the “new modernity” of Peach Fuzz, here are 10 home decor ideas to help Austinites get in touch with their inner empathy, compassion, and warmth. Lindsie Davis, the founder and principal designer of Wimberley-based home design firm Blueberry Jones Design, also pitched in with some of her favorite home decor picks that embrace Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2024.

Austin Toile Wallpaper by Flavor Paper

While wallpaper wasn’t on the list of Houzz’s home design predictions in 2024, an Austin-themed one definitely fits the bill for the prediction of “handmade and custom design details.” The listing states this wallpaper – designed by artist Dan Funderburgh – was originally custom-created for the stylish Tommie Austin located downtown. It is available in three different grounds and is hand-printed to order, making it the perfect way to make your home look and feel uniquely Austin.

Continuing the wallpaper trend, Davis shared her own favorite picks for peachy wallpapers and fabric patterns for any Austinites that want to kickstart their new year with a new color palette.

“What I love most about Peach Fuzz, is that it is literally one of those color tones that can pair with any color, and I truly mean any,” she said. “You control the intensity by the tones you choose. Want a bold mix, go with more intense tones, or keep things soft and ethereal by staying with a lighter more pastel mix.”

No matter which direction you choose for the style, we’re definitely here for the wallpaper revival in 2024.

Stack of Books Ornament from The Paper + Craft Pantry

This East Austin stationery store’s holiday offerings include much more than what you’d expect to find in a place that provides locally-made greeting cards, notepads, and writing utensils. When you’re finished admiring the shop’s famous card wall, don’t forget to turn around and look for this bookish heirloom ornament for your Christmas tree.

The hand-blown glass ornament stands 4.25 inches tall, and comes in three different color combinations. The “Warm Shades — Fuchsia Pinks Peach” is the only colorway left in stock as of publication. Who knows, maybe it will inspire Austinites to crack open that book they’ve been meaning to read for a while.

Bella Notte Harlow Throw Pillow from Maaribu

There’s nothing more comforting than taking a nap on the couch with a cozy blanket and fluffy throw pillow. These plush cotton velvet pillows from Maaribu come in many colors, and while rouge is the closest to Pantone’s peachy color of the year, you can’t go wrong mixing and matching tones with poppy and pearl. They’re machine washable, and Maaribu also offers a 24-inch by 24-inch square pillow option in the same rouge color.

For Austinites that want to dip their toes into peachy decor without fully committing to the color, Davis suggests visiting her favorite flower shop in the city — Austin Flower Co. — to create a fun floral arrangement with vibrant peach colors.

“Austin Flower Company offers a variety of unique options, and with their quick inventory turn around you will always have new fresh look,” Davis says.

Vintage rugs can add a pop of color to virtually any room of the house without overtaking the space. Apartment F’s selection of handmade vintage rugs come in a variety of patterns and colors.

“This rug would look beautiful in a kitchen as a runner,” Davis shares. “The coordinating tones are sure to pick up on your current cabinetry colors and add a splash of unexpected fun.”

Although Davis’ favorite pick — this multicolored Najma Vintage Moroccan Rug — has already sold, it’s worth taking a look at the website for other peachy options.

For the Kitchen

Made In Cookware’s Copper Collection

Peach Fuzz doesn’t have to be sanctioned only to the living room or bedroom. There are plenty of ways to incorporate it into the kitchen, starting with the copper collection by local cookware brand Made In. These modernized copper and stainless steel beauties are oven safe up to 800 degrees Fahrenheit. You don’t have to go all out for the seven-piece set; You can start small by testing out the 11-inch frying pan, and work your way up from there.

Terracotta Nous Nous Bowl from Apartment F

Terracotta’s natural color is similar to peach, and the warmth of terracotta flows seamlessly in the kitchen. These beautiful handmade clay bowls come in two color schemes, and can be used functionally or for decoration over a stack of books in a living room, according to Davis.

“I like to layer in slightly lighter and darker tones of a color when designing to help add depth and to keep things from falling flat,” Davis added. “Because [peach and terra cotta] are so similar, the eye can blend them beautifully and create harmony in your space.”

For the Office

“Flamingo” by Erin Donahue Tice

Everyone loves a statement piece, and putting custom artwork in the office adds personality to a space that could otherwise be on the more sterile side. Plus, who doesn’t like having a visually interesting backdrop during virtual work meetings? Austin-based abstract artist Erin Donahue Tice’s “Flamingo” was created using mixed media on canvas, and has been custom-framed in a gold floating frame that’s ready for hanging in any space.

Davis explains art can also be moved throughout the house “to create new moments as [the] home evolves.”

“No matter what the design style, abstract art is one of my favorite ways to shake up a space, after all design should start a dialogue and never be too serious,” Davis says.

Art lovers are welcome to check out one of Tice’s many other beautiful paintings to see which colorful piece is the perfect addition for their homes.
