Relatively new in the Saskatoon homebuilding sphere, Edison Homes is quietly carving out a niche for themselves in homes that co-owner Darrin Sych describes as one step up from entry level. Edison Homes is owned by business partners and father and son, Darrin and Jordan Sych.

The elder Sych has worked in real estate for decades in Saskatoon, while Jordan fell in love with building houses in high school when the family built their fifth home.
At 1,791 square feet the Sloane floor plan is a two-storey family home that is flexible enough to meet the needs of a growing family.
“It’s a new floor plan for us. We wanted to make it an entertaining-type house,” says Darrin. “Square-footage wise we tried to maximize every square inch that we could.”
The main floor, with nine-foot ceilings, includes an open concept kitchen, dining room and living room. The spacious room makes it easy to picture family and friends gathered to celebrate a milestone. The electric fireplace provides a focal point and some visual interest.
The kitchen is adorned with white quartz countertops, white cabinetry and white tile backsplash. Contrasting charcoal cabinetry extends into the dining area.
Darrin says they also focused on creating ample storage for homeowners in the main living space. “We went a little bananas with the cabinetry,” he notes.
Two pantry cabinets flank a built-in desk and decor shelving. There’s even a spot for a beverage fridge, which will come in handy for those get-togethers with family and friends.
The light wood-toned vinyl plank flooring adds a touch of warmth to the modern colour palette.
A powder room is located beside the kitchen on the way to the basement. The lower level is open for development.

The home boasts three bedrooms for a growing family with a 14-foot by 12-foot bonus room over the garage. The plan could even be amended to wall off the bonus room for a fourth bedroom. Leaving it as a bonus room, the homeowner has options for configuring the space as space needs change over time. It could become a playroom for young children, an entertainment room perfect for family movie night, a homework space for older kids or even an office area for those working from home.
Homeowners will enjoy the spacious walk-in closet in the main bedroom. The main bedroom also boasts a large charcoal and white tiled shower in the modern ensuite.
Thoughtful design choices like a second-floor laundry, built-in storage and desk in the bonus room, and an extra-wide stairwell, show the extra care Edison Homes takes in creating a family-functional design. The extra-large windows in the bonus room and open floor plan brighten the entire second floor.
Darrin says the family moved houses many times and as a result they take care in their design choices.
“That’s what we try to put into our houses is the obvious things that people don’t necessarily think of,” says Darrin.
The home also has a 22-foot by 24-foot double garage and an exterior of Hardie siding, which means longevity and curb appeal for years to come.
Listed at $649,900 the show home is located close to new elementary schools in The Meadows. Edison Homes hosts an open house at 163 Keith Way every Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4:30 p.m.
